Afrock breeding: Tips please? ;)

Hi,

A friend of mine recently obtained a female afrock (1+ year old) and I have a 4 year old male. Trying to obtain more resources/references on afrock breeding because I once read in a book that afrock females do not "incubate" their eggs like burms/retics. While I'm still searching for info (and waiting for the female to "grow up"), I was hoping I could get some tips from afrock experts here

1) my friend and I live in diff. homes. Does this mean that I have to bring the male rock to his female's enclosure? Or does he bring the female to male's enclosure?

2) related to the question above. Is there a period of time where I have to leave the couple alone to "check each other out" before they get busy?

with anything take the male to the female you may have to leave the male at your friends house for a couple months and let him take care of it or you go over and take care of it. kinda like a loan on breeding snakes.

Are there any "afrock only quirks" I should know of when it comes to breeding?

Like if I leave the male at the female's house, we don't have to worry about them tearing each other apart?

yeah. I know. Afrock breeders are so rare anywhere coz nobody likes Afrocks.

Who knows? We might get interesting morphs this way. hehe

Female African Rocks are the only python known to stay with their young the longest, after hatching. They are very protective of their young. Maternal incubation does occur, a long with very aggressive, and forward threat attacks if you disturb her during incubation.

The best way to have successful locks is to introduce the male into the females enclosure, after heating them up over a 3-5 week period to about 102-115 hot spot, and limit food intake. Females are very territorial, as are males, and both bear very sharp serrated teeth for combat. Unlike other boid species, both males and females of Python sebae combat, and they do fight to the death, so keep a close eye on them. They don't fight to pin, they fight to gut. They're either going to get busy within the first 2-3 days, or fight.... keep a close eye out.
