    Youtube tegu feeding??

    **warning video contains swearing**

YouTube - Argentine B&W Tegu EATS A RAT!!!

This guy bugs me so much! I mean of course I don't own one yet but I know I won't do live feeding with rats when I do. Is it the norm to live feed rats? poor tegu got bit and the owner just sat there! just wanting to know as I'm hoping to get one in a few years.

I don't feed live rodents to my lizards. I feel it's not very humane to the rodents. With the snakes, the rat generally is dead so fast, it's not an issue to me. With the lizards, it can take a long time, so I feed F/T to them.

    Re: Youtube tegu feeding??

Offering live prey to snakes is a little different than offering them to Monitors, Tegus, etc. I do neither but, Chest Compression is actually considered a "humane" method to dispatch small rodents, birds and mammals. Despite the moments of panic and sharp teeth, the rodents die a way that is considered almost humane.

On the flip side, being beaten to death isn't really humane. I would never feed my Tegu a live rodent. I see it commonly done, but I would never condone it. It isn't even necessary, I've never seen a Tegu that wouldn't eat f/k or f/t.

I've also seen it take a Tegu 8 minutes and more to kill their prey. Not really a pretty picture.

And this is why everyone think's we're all psychotic.

I'd like to feed this guy to a dinosaur and listen to him scream.

Feeding live is one thing, but this is torture. I've never had to tell my snakes to hurry up and kill their prey because it's suffering and screaming.

    Re: Youtube tegu feeding??

    Hi,

I think he normally feeds it F/T.

He mentions in the video that this was all the shop had but he needed to get a feeding video done for youtube - I can't think of a reason that would be a matter of such urgency he couldn't skip it till the next feed though.

But then I have never seen the attraction of feeding video's in the first place.

    Re: Youtube tegu feeding??

I just don't care for feeding videos in general. It certainly will not endear any of us to the general public. I don't enjoy watching any animal die, and can't imagine wanting to watch a slow beating mauling death for fun.
    Image is everything nowadays.

    Yeah, what he said.
I don't mind live feedings when it's with snakes since the mice breathe so fast which means they'll die fast once circulation stops.

With a monitor... it's minute and minutes of pain.
