    Greatly bad news

So ive been waiting for this day for a while
the day that they started having babies
So i checked this morning just as a checkup i do everyday. i lift up the hide andi see a dead pinky, i was like Yes finally a litter, I move the others to discovery that its only a litter of 5 headless pinkies I didnt think they were that much of little monsters
Im still confused on why this happened.
I only have one male in there. Its a 1.5 colony in a 10 gallon
    They have plenty of food
Is it too cramped and they decided they can't live with more in the colony and killed them?

    Im lost, please help
    Matt

Personally, i think you have too many females in that 10 gallon. I would only do a 1.2 - 1.3 group in that small of an enclosure.

when i had some of these guys going, 1.2 seemed to be the perfect number for my groups in 10G's. Two girls got along, and the boy took care of both their combined litters.

I agree with to many females, I have never had luck with more than a 1.3

    Good luck next time!

    Re: Greatly bad news

    They are overcrowded.

When that happens they start culling babies.

Ive tried 1.3 but switched to 1.2 in a 10g size tub and they are actually producing quicker with much larger litters.

    Re: Greatly bad news

alright thanks for you help. I thought i might have had too many too
I just picked up a rack today so i have them all in a 7...ish gallon morter tub
Would taking 2 out affect them at all? Ive heard that they usually wont take in new members but i dont know about taking out members

    Re: Greatly bad news

any more then 1.2 in a 10 gallon tank is too many. I mean seriously think about it. There isn't close to enough room for 1.5 adults... let alone the 60 to 70 babies.

    1.2 is the MAXIMUM.

    Re: Greatly bad news

Well i wasnt sure how much room the actually need
Like i said i have a rack now that i bought this afternoon.
I have a 1.3 in a 7 gallon mixing tub. Is that enough room
Yeah i didnt really think about the babies. Only 2 of my females are pregnant the others arent big enough (i dont think) to get preggo yet

    Re: Greatly bad news

I have done lots of trial research on this subject... too much in fact

My best production regardless of enclosure size has come from 1.2 groups.

    Re: Greatly bad news

i still have the other 2 females in a tub so ill grow them up a little and get another male and see what works a 1.3 or 1.2
My other preggo girl should drop soon too so hopfully they won't decapitate the babies this time.
Thanks everyone for the help, It seems that i have much to learn

    Re: Greatly bad news

If you have 2 pregnant ones, put then in a new tank, when they have their litters hold back a male to breed with them.
