Hurt Snake

My brand new ball python and he got hurt eating a small white mouse.

I just bought a BP last week and I fed it for the first time. I fed it a live small white mouse. And it pawned it. When he had about half-swalllowed the mouse i noticed that his neck had been cut. It had about half-swallowed the mouse when i noticed that my snake had a small cut on its neck.

It doesn't look serious, but is there something I should do?

I don't know how large the snake is exactly, buts its small only a foot or so long and he fits in the palm of my hand.

Get some non-medicated Neosporin and apply a small amount on the wound. Make sure it stays clean and if you see it getting worse or infected see a veterinarian.

Make sure to monitor your snake while he/she feeds to stop this event from recurring.

Switch your substrate to paper towels to ensure nothing gets in there to get it infected. And as eulenspiegel said, put some neosporin or polysporin on it (the kind without the pain killer).

You might also want to consider switching to f/t or p/k, neither of those options will risk injuring your snake.

If you must feed live, make sure you feed/water your prey item prior to introducing it to the snake, do not leave it unsupervised when in with your snake and be prepared to intervene if necessary.

Please also be prepared to either house the rodent in a decent manner if your snake refuses or to humanely euthanize it; most places will not allow you to return a feeder.

I was not implying either method was bad. I was simply saying that a p/k prey item will not bite or scratch your snake.
