Female Not Delivering Eggs?
I just got off the phone with the girl who gave me the Balls and Red Tailed. She had forgot to mention that the least time Sheba mated, she ended up having to take her to the vet to have th eggs removed as she was unable to lay them.
Has anyone heard of this? This is a first for me and am curious as to why she wasn't able to lay her eggs and if she would even be a viable snake to try and breed in the future. I haven't decided on breeding her yet, but am leaving all options open right now. I don't want to do anything that would hurt Sheba either.

Re: Female Not Delivering Eggs?
My buddy is big in to breeding Chameleons, and some time if the females become gravid and dont have anywhere to dig and barry their eggs, they will become egg bound and can die. but honestly ive never herd of a ball doing that, but im still very new and dont doubt it.

Re: Female Not Delivering Eggs?
At this point in time i have done no breeding myself, but i will repeat what i have read and heard.
Sometimes, female ball pythons can become egg bound. This occurs when she is too small to pass the eggs (ie breeding at too small of a size), the eggs are just too big (fluke thing that happens in all species, the offspring are too large. think a male great dane breeding a Chihuahua, conceiving and then trying to gestate or even birth those pups ). In order to fix this, a vet or owner will pierce and aspirate the contents of the last egg, flatten the shell and massage it out of the female. This situation may also require surgery. The eggs will die and start to decompose which could lead to an infection, etc. This information may not be 100% correct, but from what i understand about how and why egg binding would happen, its the best of my knowledge.

Re: Female Not Delivering Eggs?
I appreciate the info. She did say she took Sheba to the vet to have the problem taken care of. She said it cost her almost $700 to have her treated. That leads me to believe it might have been a serious condition. My thinking is, if that indeed did happen, I would be VERY leary of trying to breed her again in the future. I may go for another female later on down the road...MUCH later on down the road. I have way too much to learn yet...
