I have a dog that we adopted a few months ago He was just a year old when we got him House broken, but still a puppy in everyway but size. He's supposedly a husky and shepard mix - with a few other things thrown in for good measure...
They had a litter of about 8 or more pups. He was a hold back, but they hit hard times and decided to adopt him out, but keep the parents. He looked nothing like the siblings. He was way bigger (about 100lbs) and almost pure white. Most people think he is a great pyranese (sp?).
Anyway, great dog so far. Not a mean bone in his body. You can take food from his mouth with out a flinch. Has yet to knock over our twin 20month old girls - very aware of his big body. His wagging tail has nailed them a few times though
He rarely barks. Mainly to be let in our out of his kennel where he sleep in my boys room at night. I got him doing a husky type talking\howling\singing once and that's it.
The problem with him so far is 1) he's head strong and does not like to listen. Training has been hard because he just insn't that into food and treats. Some dogs are very easy to train because they are so into food and treats. This guy couldn't care less... 2) he's a runner. You open the door and don't look out, he's out in a flach and running in the streets and neighborhood. He LOVES to run. We have a fenced in back yard, but the front is wide open and kids sometimes accidently let him past. Scary each time. They are getting better though.
Anway, does your husky \ shepherd mix resemble this behavior at all?
Here he is the day we got him:
Here he is taking my 9 yr old for a walk in the snow. He loves running and loves snow... So next year we are going to get him pulling a sled
The twins really like him:
