    Anyone do LASIK?

I have an eye appointment with a High Definition LASIK institute next Tuesday - and I'm so hoping I am a good candidate for this surgery.

So, if you've had corrective eye surgery, i'm interested in your story. Seems that everyone I've heard of having it has had nothing less than perfect results.

I've been wearing glasses and contacts since about 6th grade. When I work on my computer late at night, my contacts get dried out and irritating, so on go the 10 pound glasses. ugh.

I can't deal with any kind of breeze. Fans in the room dry out my eyes, i can almost never drive with my windows down, and I am seriously considering a sports bike - and the last thing I need on a sports bike is to worry about my vision.

So, those are my main reasons. What were yours and how do you feel about your decision to get eye surgery?

    How old is your daughter?

The first time in inquired about eye surgery, I was told it's not a good idea because my vision will constantly change, and I'm too young to be considering it. I was about 20 at that time.

    Re: Anyone do LASIK?

my wife's mother had it done and it worked great for a while. then she had to wear reading glasses and now she is back in glasses full time. she also has over active tear ducts now.

it doesn't always take and doesn't always last.

good luck if you decide to go through with it.

    Re: Anyone do LASIK?

I had it done last August - started with 20/30 in my left eye and 20/50 in my right with an astigmatism. I tested at 20/20 in both eyes the week after the procedure, and have tested both at 20/15 regularly since the first month.

Just remember to follow their directions religiously - having sat in the clinic for a number of hours waiting on follow-up visits, I was able to observe a number of people who didn't keep up proper post-op care, and had issues because of it.

Thumbs up Re: Anyone do LASIK?

I had it done and it's great. You will need reading glasses after 40 whether you do it or not. My vision went from off the charts to 20/15.

Do not go to a bargain basement guy to save money. I paid top dollar for both eyes but my doctor is a corneal surgeon. Graduated from Princeton University. Medical degree from Johns Hopkins/Harvard Medical School. Taught at Harvard Med and wrote a few textbooks. He teaches other doctors how to perform Lasik and tests the new machines.

BTW, you should see great right after the procedure.

    Good luck.
