Ok, so not exactly... But I was watching either some health scientist on Discovery the other day, and he was talking about how drinking a glass of ice water makes your body burn like 12 calories. It lowers your core body temperature by a very small degree, but it's still enough to make your body work to re-establish your 98.6 core temperature. And while 12 calories doesn't sound like a lot of calories, if you were to drink the recommended 8 glasses each day, that equates to 96 calories that your body is burning by just drinking water! Cool stuff... but he did say that this alone will not make you skinny. Exercise and eating healthy should be the main ingredients to being fit.
I read an article last summer that talked about how something like 80% of the calories we ingest are devoted to maintaining our core body temperature. That's why we have to eat so much compared to our reptiles. They don't need to take in so much food because they get all their warmth from the environment. Anyway, this got me to thinking... What if you purposely kept your house very cold? For example, in the winter time, if you barely ran your heat, you'd be very cold and uncomfortable but your body would be working extra hard and burning more calories to maintain the high body temperature... Again, I don't think it would make you skinny or have a 6 pack, but it's just interesting stuff that I thought I'd share...
