    Spider wobble or spin question....

    My spider has a spin or wobble to him, but not tremendously bad. Head is always cocked, ocasionally flips when picked up. So my question is: What is the reason behind spider wobble or spin? Can it be bred out? And if bred, would he carry on this trait, as in the extent of his wobble?

    Thanks!

    Re: Spider wobble or spin question....

    I think it is just a carried on trait just like the tendency for albinos high % of deformities.

    I think if bred it does carry on, that's how he got it.

    When I see vids on youtube with spiders that have it I feel really bad and turn it off for some reason.

    Re: Spider wobble or spin question....

    It is not something to worry about. It is not a health issue, I see it as if it eats regularly and def regularly and doesnt act as if in pain then you shouldnt worry yourself over it. Some spiders have it and some dont. I believe it cannot be bred out.

    Re: Spider wobble or spin question....

    Hi,

    It's a fairly complicated situation from what I have read.

    All spiders/ spider crosses can exhibit it at some stage of their life but the timing and severity seems to be random to some extent.

    The original imported spider had the problem.

    This is the list of the most recent threads onthe subject (I found it via the forum search using "spider wobble" as the search terms );

    Wow, dont have the time at the moment to read all of those, but I really appreciate it. I'll be checking them out later tonight. As for me being worried, no, Im not concerned. Just curious! Too many questions, too little time. lol

    I've been producing albino ball pythons for 10 years and have never seen a deformity.

    Hope this helps.

    Ralph Davis Produced a clutch of albinos and two had pretty bad deformities.

    http://www.ralphdavisreptiles.com/bi.../pythons_2.asp

    Pictures are on that page. Not saying albinos are at a high risk, but there are some that have pretty bad deformities.

    Hi,

    Yes I think Ralph did a video about those albino's - he was trying to get granite albinos.

    So there were genes in there not in most of the normal albinos people are working with.

    This is a copy of the text from his clutch description on the page you linked to above;

    3.2 "Granite Albino" hatched out on 7/12/08.....1 egg in this clutch went bad....they look like very nice Albinos as did 04 clutch # 79......the Albinos from 04 clutch # 79 matured into "Mom's color" to some degree but not as extreme. All but 1 baby in this clutch are "tweaked"..........short lower lips and slightly deformed snouts..........1 has no eyes at all..........

    This clutch is a "flash back" of 06 clutch # 12 which was a total disaster clutch........04 clutch # 79 was breeding a "regular Albino" male to the Granite Albino female.....all were perfect from that clutch............06 clutch # 12 was breeding her het son back to here with bad results............this season was her homozygous Albino son back to her........we have "life"..........but line breeding is definitely out of the question with this project...........The Albinos she has produced in the past are "knock outs"........this is a tuff one..........
    And here is his description of the clutch mentioned above;

    This clutch is a TRAIN WRECK!......there were 5 albinos and 2 hets.......1 bad egg........3 of the Albinos are DEAD........deformed, weak and tweaked.......and 1 of the hets is the same way.......

    There are 3 survivors..........2 Albinos and a het........all are totally tweaked, kinked and deformed ( bad eyes and snouts )..........ALL had bloody egg yolks left in their eggs. All had horrible colored egg fluid as well........

    This is the worst full term clutch I've ever produced........from what I can see, the Albinos look to be "normal albinos".......

    What a mess..........
    I don't think you can take this as meaning there are problems with all regular albinos in any way shape or form.
