I think it is just a carried on trait just like the tendency for albinos high % of deformities.

I've never seen an albino with a deformity.

Ralph Davis Produced a clutch of albinos and two had pretty bad deformities.

Pictures are on that page. Not saying albinos are at a high risk, but there are some that have pretty bad deformities.

Hi,

Yes I think Ralph did a video about those albino's - he was trying to get granite albinos.

So there were genes in there not in most of the normal albinos people are working with.

3.2 "Granite Albino" hatched out on 7/12/08.....1 egg in this clutch went bad....they look like very nice Albinos as did 04 clutch # 79......the Albinos from 04 clutch # 79 matured into "Mom's color" to some degree but not as extreme. All but 1 baby in this clutch are "tweaked"..........short lower lips and slightly deformed snouts..........1 has no eyes at all..........

This clutch is a "flash back" of 06 clutch # 12 which was a total disaster clutch........04 clutch # 79 was breeding a "regular Albino" male to the Granite Albino female.....all were perfect from that clutch............06 clutch # 12 was breeding her het son back to here with bad results............this season was her homozygous Albino son back to her........we have "life"..........but line breeding is definitely out of the question with this project...........The Albinos she has produced in the past are "knock outs"........this is a tuff one..........

This clutch is a TRAIN WRECK!......there were 5 albinos and 2 hets.......1 bad egg........3 of the Albinos are DEAD........deformed, weak and tweaked.......and 1 of the hets is the same way.......

There are 3 survivors..........2 Albinos and a het........all are totally tweaked, kinked and deformed ( bad eyes and snouts )..........ALL had bloody egg yolks left in their eggs. All had horrible colored egg fluid as well........

This is the worst full term clutch I've ever produced........from what I can see, the Albinos look to be "normal albinos".......

What a mess..........

I don't think you can take this as meaning there are problems with all regular albinos in any way shape or form.

I will not agree that there is a high percentage, but here is a deformed Albino that I hatched three years ago. Last year the same girl gave me three perfectly healthy babies. It died half way out of the egg, and was severely kinked for the last 2 inches of the body.

Sometimes it'll come and go, sometimes be worse....other times you hardly notice it. It's there, and just something that one has to live with regarding spiders (as far as we know). As long as the parents don't exhibit extreme wobbles or laying upside down, and the spider you are interested in currently doesn't do it too much, I would imagine it would be manageable throughout its future.

I wonder, though, if there is a relationship between being albino and deformed vs just a random occurrence of deformity which happens with all balls?

Excellent question, and one I have often pondered. I have hatched close to 500 Ball Pythons since I started in this craziness, and that is the only severe deformity that I have had go full term, and actually stay alive long enough to attempt emerging from the egg. As I stated, the same breeding 2 years after that animal, produced 3 Albinos with 0 deformities.
