traveling with BPs

I will be moving soon and i just wanted to know what the best way to travel with my bp would be. i have a young boy and i would not be going very far only about an hour but will i need a heating pad or something? and what should i keep him in

If you are traveling in a car, just make sure the car is heated (not blazing hot, just not frigid). I would just put him in a pillowcase and knot off the end. As long as the temp doesn't drop below 70* he should be fine.

It all depends on the temperatures the day you move. I like to use an electric blanket for short trips. If you have an insulated box or cooler, you can always use that to carry him in. I like to keep an accurite probe near the snake so I can monitor temps, but I'm a little spazzy.

Remember it's not only going to be the hour drive, but time before hand when you unplug the cage and the time it takes to stabilize temps once you get the cage set back up again. Although an hour or two and you should be pretty good depending on where you live.

For an hour, as long as you are comfortable, the BP will be ok. And I mean comfortable in jeans & t-shirt type clothing, not comfortable bundled up in your winter parka. Just be aware that you don't have the snake in the sunlight, or where the car's heater or AC are blowing directly on it.

However, as Christie pointed out, you have to count the entire time from when you unplug & remove the snake from its enclosure, to when you have it plugged in and even longer than that, because it has to be stabilized again. It is possible that the same equipment will not keep the temps the same when in a different environment. So be prepared to keep a close eye on it for a while.

yes i do have most of my day focused just on moving my animals so i'll be able to keep a close eye on him. he will be last in the car and first out of it

A few hours in non-extreme temps won't hurt your BP. Don't let him bake in a car left out in the sun while you grab lunch. Don't let him freeze in a car without heat either.

Since it's only an hour away, it might be quite possible for you to set up heated temporary housing for the snake at the new location beforehand so there won't be any setup/stabalization time when you put the regular cage/rack/whatever you house your BP in together after moving the snake there. This isn't necessary though.

Don't forget that people ship BPs all the time and don't provide exact 80s-90s cool side/warm side heating during the multiple-hour shipping process, BPs are hardy creatures, we just do as much as we can to keep them comfortable and happy. An hour car ride should be nothing to worry about as long as you don't do anything stupid.. lol

I just moved mine last weekend. about 45 minute drive. I put them in snake bags/pillowcases in a tub with a heat pack at the bottom under newspaper. Probably didnt need to but I did anyways. And I kept the car about as warm as I could stand....78-80.

Hit up your local WalMart, dollar store, whatever and grab one of these (they come in various sizes). I have a few of them and they are fantastic for holding snakes while cleaning tubs, moving snakes, taking snakes to the vet, holding live prey for snakes, whatever. Just melt in a few vent holes and you're good to go. The lids are very secure and have a handle for carrying. The come in a variety of lid colors and are very reasonably priced.

I'd pop your snake into a pillowcase or snake bag, tie closed and then put into this sort of container. Then you know it's double safe and can be easily hauled to the new house and left in there safely while you set it's home up.

Bigger size (I vented this one a lot since I use it more for moving live rodents than snakes around)....

Glad I came across this... I will be traveling from PA back to NC which is a 6-8 hour drive in May... what would be best for that long drive and my two ABP's?
