escrow.com
As sort of a peripheral quasi business to what I do for a living, I sell domains, and I usually use escrow.com to enact and complete those sorts of transactions.
The idea is, the money is held in escrow by escrow.com, and when the domain is transfered to the new owner, only then are the monies released to the seller, etc.
Then I thought, why don't people use escrow.com for purchasing herps from people they 1) don't know, 2) have little or no references or 3) just to make everything safer and kept on the up and up.
There is an escrow fee that is based on the transaction value, but these sorts of things can be absorbed by the seller rather easily.
Just a thought.
I am looking for kinks or weaknesses in the idea, so please, play the devils advocate here.

Re: escrow.com
Interesting idea, Brandon, but I don't think I would personally take advantage of that kind of service. Thank You.

Re: escrow.com
I buy pretty much everything with a credit card, online, over the phone and even in person. If I don't get what I paid for I place the purchase in dispute. Works every time.

Re: escrow.com
A Federal law says that if you buy something with a credit card and you don't get what you ordered, you don't have to pay for it. If you call the phone # on the card and tell them that you want to place the item in dispute. The credit issuer must take it off the bill at that time. If the seller can't prove that you received it, you never have to pay for it. This would include a domain name. If you pay with a check, whether personal or certified, cash, money order or debit card there is no protection. That is why I always use a credit card.
