I belong to forums where if a person even mentions an interest in hybrids they are blacklisted from sales, trades, etc.

I also know breeders that will not trade with people that have traded with hybrid breeders 3 generations back. I think that is a fair stance if you feel strongly about a breeder, or something that is ethically compelling to you as a breeder.

We pay a lot of money for the snakes we buy, we invest a great deal of time in them, and we (hopefully) all strive to produce a top-notch *product*. Our snakes ARE our reputations. You cannot fault a person for have a belief system that is counter to your own.

Even a cursory search on hybrids on this site, would have lead you to myriad other threads that have all gone the same way.

I think this has all been quite civil.

Anyone thinking of getting into hybrids needs to grasp the consequences. Not just that, but to understand why people feel the way they do. Those opposed to hybrids, need to know who is working with them, so that they can make informed decisions regarding what snakes they purchase and from whom.

I am still ambivalent to them, but I have a very firm grasp of both camps, and should I ever chose to venture into those waters I will do it with a clear consciousness and a firm belief in what I am doing.

The same way I entered into morph breeding, same stance I took upon purchasing my first spider... etc... etc... etc...

And my bad, you only started two of the three threads that are current. I do apologize.

That may be the best point in this entire thread.

    Re: new hybrid forum

Considering a lot of people have said they don't have a problem with them as long as it is done responcibly I think a Hybrid forum would be great. Those interested would have a place to go and get the facts on this site without having to worry about dealing with a hail storm of people saying they are totally against them. Moderators could control access just like Quarantine to prevent the old "I'm against them" post count from getting too high from people who are not there to be educators.

For me to finally get facts on the subject I actually went and talked with Steve Roussis. He has quite an amazing collection of hybrids and is not only well informed on hybrids, but is also someone I respect as a keeper of Pythons.

While Hybrids are a lot more work than I would want to get into he did bring up several important factors. The big one being Fluffy the kitty and Fido the dog are a result of hybridization. Yep it even holds true for your AKC documented dog.

Bruce, do you know where one could acquire a hybrid black list, or do I have to start my own?

Heh, afraid I do not have one. Gotta vote yes on the hybrid forum to work one of those.

no offense...but what is really to think about>> why would you say no?? thats unethical. To vote against another person talking about what they wish to talk about in a place where you dont have to see it is just foolish and selfish in my opinion....

The man said he wanted to think it over before casting a vote. What the hell is wrong with taking time to weigh the issue before making a choice? I wish more people did business that way!

The issue is what there is to think about. If you think that it is foolish to vote no then you must think that the poll giving the option to vote no is foolish in itself. If 4 people voted yes for such a forum and 104 people voted no, I would think it foolish to create a forum that generates no interest.I myself have not yet voted either way but I am unethical enough that I actually think about an issue before I cast a vote.

ok..buying a new car..think about it....marriage..thats something to think about..but a place where a few people can get together and discuss something of their choosing...i dunno maybe im wrong..i didnt know it was cool to deny people a place to speak here....its not like the objective is to change the website to hybrids.net or anything...and its not really a business a deal..i dunno i guess im wrong in thinking that no person should deny another person a place to speak his/her mind, once again in a little spot that none of you who voted no even ever have to go. im sure you have a "good reason" i just for the life of me cant seem to think of one...once again maybe im wrong i dunno. if i hated bananas, and there were people on this site who liked em, who am i to say no dont do that you cant talk about bananas anywehere near me!!!!! aaaahhh!!!! i should not have the power to do so...im fortunate enough to be from america where we have freedom of speech, which to be means you have the right to express or not express what your feeling, why would anyone person want to deny that to someone else...now i understand that if their wasnt much interest there would be no point...but maybe a hybrid forum would bring new members here that would feel more comfortable with a hybrid forum, as a matter fact i bet it would..once again why would anyone want to deny this, i have a straight up question and i want a straight up answer...why do a few of you want to deny some of us the right..actually i should say privilege, of being able to talk about what we want, in its own special little forum. Why???
