Equate PAM question
OK,
A new snake I adopted has mites. First time for me, really glad I only have two others in quarantine room. I am going to buy reptile relief today to give immediate relief. I know how to clean, I know PAM's good, deserved reputation and that it is the only FDA approved. I know all the arguments against Equate and for PAM. While I have read many who have "successfully" used Equate for years. I know that it is not the same ingredients as PAM, regardless what others have posted on other forums.
I cannot get PAM for several days, which is why I am using the temporary solution, even though it does not kill eggs. Because I value all my snakes and their health I am buying reptile relief even though it is temporary and am going to pay more for PAM and not get equate.
With all this said, I am only interested in hearing peoples experience with Equate, not debating why PAM should be used, that reason is obvious. It has science, time, and the FDA to back up it up!
Question: If you or anyone you know has used Equate, what was your experience?
Thanks

Re: Equate PAM question
Like GetSome, I have avoided interjecting my experiences in the past, but now is as a good a time as any. We have used Equate for about 5 years now. I have had 2 outbreaks of mites over the last five years (they came in from a snake bought at a show once, and from two adult normals that we bought 5 years ago the other time). Knock on wood, we haven't had any in over 2 years now. Both outbreaks we treated with Equate. The first time we got them, they only spread from 2 snakes to a total of 4. The second time we got them, it spread from 1 snake to over 100 snakes. Both times, the Equate eradicated the mites within 30 days. We did a second treatment at the 30 day mark, in hopes of making sure they were gone.
With the above said, I have had good success with it. Also, upon return to our facility from a show, we spray every animals enclosure before it gets put back in it's tub. We also spray every new arrivals tub as a preventive measure. After this last show however, I forgot to pick up some Equate, and my can was very low, so I had to resort to buying a can of Black Knight II from a friend. So, we will be BKII users for at least a while now.
While I have read Jamie's write (that Robin linked to), I do not disagree with it, but have had great success over the years with Equate. Also, of note, I have not lost a snake that was over 3 days old since we began keeping Ball Pythons.
I hope that helps,

Re: Equate PAM question
I just had a small mite outbreak and I used Equate. I sprayed temporary tubs and put the snakes in them after airing out. I cleaned and sprayed my racks inside and out and put the snakes back in in 48 hours. I used paper towel substrate and been replacing the towels as needed. I have not seen a mite since, and plan to repeat the process after 30 days or so to make sure it stays that way. I have to say i'm impressed with how well it worked.
