    Blood in tank

So I fed my BP for the first time since bringing him home about a week and a half ago (waiting for a shed to complete) and it went surprisingly well... considering he just finished a shed, just came into a new home, and is battling a case of mites from the shop I bought him from. I fed a live mouse and he went after it immediately, but now there's some blood left on the paper towels in the bottom of the tank... whenever I approach the tank now the snake coils up like it's prepped to strike... I'm gonna change out the towels, but is the blood the likely reason he's trying to strike at all times? I have pretty much left him alone while I wait for the PAM to come in.

If he just ate he'll still be amped up so just leave him be for now. That bit of blood can be dealt with tomorrow when he's napping in his hide. Also mites can't be comfortable for snakes so that could be part of it. Also he may still be hungry. Anytime I hear of a snake being sold with mites, I automatically suspect it wasn't cared for properly in other ways.

When you can safely examine him (try to not bug him for 48 hours post feed) do determine that blood was from the prey and not from a bite wound on the snake. Not likely but best always to check that.
