    Has this cross been done?

Anyone know of a cross between and Dumeril's boa (Acrantophis dumerili) and a Madagascar ground boa (Acrantophis madagascariensis)? Just out of curiosity and a potential future project. My fiancee is working towards a BEAUTIFUL little MGB boy, the only thing we would be missing is the DGB female. How much could a cross of these go for?

I haven't heard of this intra-species hybrid, not saying it isn't out there.

It's hard to say what the pricing would be. I wouldn't think anything too ludicrous, seeing as they are a very similar species. Like most hybrids though, it would mostly depend on the outcome.

    Good luck!

it hasn't be done to my knowledge. the only boa cross i can think over (other than red tail crosses) is the amazon X emerald.

if you are planning to make it rich by hybrid breeding, don't hold your breath. hybrids are extremely hard to sell. if that is your drive for this hybrid project, then I advise you don't do it.

it wouldn't be for money...more for curiosity. The MGB we are planning to get has a beautiful pink color to him and I just wonder how it would work with the pink in the DGB. This would be straight for curiosity. Luckily we wouldn't be technically "paying" for the MGB ($1200) or the DGB. (fiancee works at the place we get our animals from and they are paying her on in store credit). I would just hope the babies are just a box of ugly...

I wish you all of the luck in the world.

Personally, hybrids aren't my thing, but if they are appropriately labeled, I don't have much of an issue with them. The only time I have a serious issue with hybrids is when they get like the Carpet Pythons, etc. It's hard to tell a pure one now.

I think you should consider how you are going to find homes for a potentially large litter. I'm sure people would be more than willing to take them off your hands, but will they be as responsible as you? Making sure the animals stay labeled properly, etc? It would be a pity to muddy up the blood line of either species.

Re: Has this cross been done?

i am unfamilar with the sizes of these two. just make sure the female is larger and cross your fingers. i too wish you luck. just be prepared to be able to keep all the babies.

the chances of all the embryos developing are slim. you may only get a few so.....

let us know how it turns out.

Re: Has this cross been done?

Thanks for the wishes of luck. It will be awhile down the road since the 2 are pretty young. My buddy picked up his half of the project today (0.1 DGB). They get a pretty good size.
