It's unfortunately common for snake charmers in rural areas to sew the mouth shut, so there is no risk of being bitten.
I would then have to think the snake eventually is killed or dies of dehydration/starvation, as it would be unable to eat (although maybe drinking could happen).
Very cruel practice, and the officials do try to stop it.

Those people have been doing that for a thousand years.all the cobras have had their fangs ripped out,steve irwin did a clip on idian snake tribes once, 1000's of snakes die each year,also i heard idia is banning the street shows the charmers got together & protested the right to do what they do thats how they make a living.
