Piebald morph???
Hello everyone,
I'm new to this site and about to purchase my first ball python next week. I'm trying to learn more about morphs and genetics and I am fascinated by the piebald morph. How is this morph produced? Is it a cross between 2 different morph or does the trait have to be dominant in the snake?? Not sure if thats was worded correctly but hopefully you guys understand what my ?
Thanks in Advance

Re: Piebald morph???
Welcome to BPnet!
Piebalds rock, and are one of my favorite Morphs. The Pied gene is recessive, and the original Pied was found in the wild and imported. It's not a cross between two Morphs, though it has been crossed into other Morphs to make different designer mutations.

Re: Piebald morph???
Piebalds are simple recessive, meaning both parents need to carry the gene for piebald in order to produce a piebald, just like albinos.
Some other morphs are dominant (or co-dominant)meaning only one parent needs to carry the gene in order to produce offspring that are the morph.
Piebalds are not a mixture of different morphs but you can mix a different morph in with them.
Hope this explains it a little

I tell you what, if a piebald is your first BP, you're making a good start.
