Piebald have short life span and eating problems. Is this true or not?
I heard from a friend of mine that piebald have a short life span, they can only live up to about 6 years and then they die. Is this true or not? and also, some piebald are not good eater / having trouble feeding. Is this true? Anyone in this form owns a pied over 6 years of age?

Re: Piebald have short life span and eating problems. Is this true or not?
I've never had a problem with any of my pieds feeding. My female is around 2400 grams and my male around 1300. I have 2.2 going this year and they are all 4 years old. I've never heard anything about them dying at 6 years old.

I have had problems with my pieds feeding, but it is seasonal, and typical.
As for Pieds dying at 6, I have never heard that, and I'll get back to you on that one in a few years.
I'm almost 100% certain that is not true.. Pete Kahl would be missing a lot of animals if that were the case..

Sounds like BS to me. piedbald is a colour mutation. It has nothing to do with lifespan except in the wild, where it would be easy prey.

I wouldn't necisarrily assume any mutations are only skin deap until confirmed. I've not heard of any such problems with Piebald but don't yet own one and in general these mutations are changing the natural chemistry and some might have effects other than just cosmetic.

I was just holding the original piebald male the other night ... he's over 14 years old ... so no, it's not true.
Hope this helps.

I don't suppose you know where I could see pics of the snake?
I just realised it would be a facinating project to track down and get photo's / video's of the progenitors of the mutations we get so much pleasure from.
It would be a great historical resource for future generations as well - especially if people kept genetic material to go along with it.
OK not as likely as donating a picture but the longer time passes then it becomes less likely that good first hand information and images could be collected.
I for one would love to see the first spider, the first ever pastel and the sires dams of the different "lines" of pastels as well.
