    Shed question

    Hello,

My BP is shedding for the first time since I have had him. He was in the opeque (eyes) stage 8 days ago. Now his skin is wierd looking..sort of wrinkly, anyway like it is about ready to come off. It has been this way for about three days now. It is starting to peel off on his head. Is this normal or does he need some help..like a warm bath.

I know he is getting hungry also, should I feed him now? He ate on 2/22/09.

    Husbandry is ok.

    Thanks!

Husbandry is OK? What is your humidity at? I always place an extra container of water when I see first signs of shed. Never had any issues. Sounds like the humidity might be off a bit if he looks like he's wrinkled up.

    Re: Shed question

I would mist his cage down to bump up the humidty to 70% constant, but dont soak him, not yet.

If it really is coming off, where you can rub your finger down his spine lightly (but firmly) and you get some shed peeling off, then he may need some help. I will refer you to this thread "Bad Shed? No problem." Make sure, whatever you do, that you DO NOT LEAVE HIM UNATTENDED while soaking!

For now, leave him alone, make sure his husbandry is correct.

Should I feed him? He is only 5 - 6 months old.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Re: Shed question

He's only just over 1 week from his last feed really. It's not uncommon for some snakes to refuse a feed during shed cycles so I wouldn't worry about the feeding this week. Just concentrate on getting him to shed or if he can't do it himself, then use that link for information on how to help him shed. He'll be much more comfortable after that old skin is off then you can just feed him on his next scheduled feeding day.
