I knew that your guys would understand my frustration, so heres a bit of a rant about a friend (if I can call him that) of mine.
A guy I have known for a while as well as worked with for over a year, has owned a normal adult male ball-python for a few years. It lived at his parent's house because he had moved in with his girlfriend and her parents and they wouldn't let him bring it.
So not the end of the world right? Well his parents didn't care at all about the snake, and he would pop by once a month to turn the lamp on for a few hours and give it some water (yes, once a month). And every few months he would force feed the ball python a rat.
After hearing all of this I did my best to convince him to let me care for the snake so it would at least live. But he was reluctant and didn't want to "lose his baby". So I couldn't push him into it anymore than I had so I did my best to give him tips on how to get the snake to eat by correcting the snakes environment.
So this week he tells me his recently purchased scorpion died, and then a few days later his ball python died with the snakes upper half of the body sitting rigid straight up and down. He said he has seen it stargazing when he had visited it.
This snake lived for 3 years in a glass tank with a lamp turned on once a month, and a water bowl. It just makes me so sick to know that anyone thinks that it is o.k to treat any animal like this. I have no one to express my sheer sadness of the situation to with exception to all of you here, so I just wanted to share it. Thanks for listening.
