There have been several threads on "Is this girl ovulating". Well we have been lucky enough to catch 3 girls ovulate recently and once you see it there is no mistaking it. Although I have had threads on the individual ovulations I figured I would put all three pics together so people can compare and refer to them if they think they may have witnessed an ovulation. Many of us(myself included) have witness building and think it maybe an ovulation, but once you have seen it there is no mistaking it. I find all my girls soak in their water bowls(if its big enough) prior to ovulation so it makes it a little easier for me to guestimate when they are going to do it.
You can clearly see the scales being strectched apart and that part of the body(about 2/3's down) swollen 2 or 3 times larger than the rest of the snake. It doesnt happen for very long(4-8 hours) and is easily missed. A week or two after the ovulation the snake will go into shed which will be the pre-lay shed. Once she sheds it is usually 30 days until the eggs are laid. So if the scales dont look like they are gonna pop it aint an ovulation
Hope this is helpful to those of us eagerly awaiting this key breeding signal. Just cause they lock doesnt mean they will ovulate. This is the best sign eggs are coming![]()
