Tonight has shattered my faith in America electronics. At around 4:00AM this morning I woke to my wife tossing and turning... Generally just one of those things, nothing new or exotic.
What was new and exotic however... was the lack of red light in the room. My BP's heat lamp is run by a tstat... so I knew it wasn't out of the ordinary but something still wasn't right... I turned over and my new little guy Hex (an Albino King snake) had no light either. Since his light is directly fed and his UTH on a dimmer that set off so many red flags I thought my head was going to explode.
I came out of my bed like a bolt of lightning. I'm going to be sporting some wonderful bruises from where I roared down the stairs to hit the lights and returning to the cages.
When I got to them I found that both temps on either side of the cages were plummeting. Sayurii was a little icy brick and Hex wasn't in much better shape. We immediately removed them from the cages and got them placed on our persons (yes my central heat failed, so we were all cold) and I set off several of our backup generators and space heaters. Praise God both of my snakes came back to their curious and hyperactive selves once they got a bit of warmth to them.
My King snake scared me far worse than my ball since he just willing left his cage with no fuss at all, I nearly cried when he latched onto my finger and proved that he was still with us.
I have set appointments for both of them to have full workups in the morning and for the next week or so that assure that the incident isn't going to lead to further health issues...
Please keep us in your prayers. And as for the central heat guys... they'll be dead by morning.
