Re: aLI HAS A MAJOR RI! PLEASE HELP Hurry hurry hurry!

Culture, culture culture!! DO IT! Baytril may work with the spider if he's not had it very long and it's not progressed to anything more than sticky mucous in the mouth. If he's open-mouth breathing and bubbling, then it likely won't work as well.

Your Albino should have been on a month-long treatment of every 48-72 hour injections. 2 weeks of shots is nothing to slow-healing reptiles. When my het Pied Jungle male was shipped, he came down with a stress RI, and I put him on Baytril every 48-hours for a good month. He's recovered just fine(that was last year) and never had a relapse.

When they have relapses, that's when the bacteria gets even more resistant to the antibiotics you're using. Which means they won't work as well, if at all.

You need to get a culture done on the Albino, get a stronger antibiotic and KEEP HER ON IT for a solid month or longer. Fortaz is a good one, but it's expensive and has to be kept in the freezer. It's given every 72 hours.

What are her temperatures? If they are below 95 on the hot side, bump them up to 96/86, with a high relative humidity(65-75%). Soaking her every other day or so will hydrate her and help keep her kidneys flushed out(so they don't fail).

If you can get a nebulizer(I can post pictures of what I use and the container it is attached to that the animal goes in) from a pharmacy, you can rent one, and the vet can make up a concoction of antibiotics and some bronchodilators(even just plain saline works wonders). If not, then steaming her in a bathroom with a hot shower going is the next best thing.

Also, are you cleaning out her mouth and her nostril area(under her upper jaw)? This is important to get all of the thickened mucous that is clogging her nostrils. Small q-tips work well and a needle cap works well to hold their mouth open.

It is VERY important that a culture is done, and a better round of antibiotics is administered.. If not, well, you know what happens if not.

Oh, and what dose of Baytril is she getting? And what's the concentration of it? Is it 22.7mg/ml or 100mg/ml? They can have up to 10mg/kg for resistant bacteria, so if she's on a lower dose, then you can increase it. How much does she weigh?
