Here are my battered rescues. They are sweeties and love to eat. They didn't bother fasting at all this year. I picked them up in December 07 and drove about an hour through the redwoods at night and was not very sure whether it was a good idea to get them. Thee owners were moving and wanted to find thhem a suitable retirement home with more attention.
My friend is currently housing them while I rearrange my snake room and they have charmed the heck out of all his roommates, even the one who doesn't like snakes! I think he doesn't touch them, but isn't terrified of them anymore. Montreal (formerly Monty) is 18 and a male, he was somewhat successfully breeding with Tiamat at one point. The former owners said they never produced eggs, so Tiamat is male. However he/she has a huge belly scar from a burn on the lower third of his/her body.
Can they fry their reproductive organs? I suspect from her size she may just be a sterilized female. Tiamat is 17 and unknown and eats like a pig. She is mostly blind from some kind of cataracts and is less social than Monty. She likes to hide under stuff, whereas Monty loves to climb! He got his back humps from from falling and they suspect he dragged a piece of furniture off a ledge and broke some bones with it. So he has these camel humps on the back half of his body. Otherwise he is healthy and will occasionally deign to eat something if it is specifically live mice. He will take FT and rats occasionally but I see no need to push it much.
I have really enjoyed these old snakes & am glad I was able to get them. I am going to attempt a trail separation (hee) and house them in separate tupperwares and see how they do. They have always live together, but I wish to separate them for all the reasons people house snakes separately and I think they would appreciate the extra space. I hope to enjoy more years with these two. thanks for looking!
