One thing you might try is phoning your zoo's public relations/main office/visitor information office. Ask them for the day and hours that are normally the least high traffic at their zoo. That should help you have a more quiet experience and get more great pictures.

Canon S5 IS. I just started taking pictures so I'm FAR FAR AWAY from being Pro. The S5 is no where near a DSLR which I'll be buying sometime this year. Maybe the Canon 40D.

But for practice, the S5 is pretty good. One thing though, in LOW LIGHT situations, it lacks. That's where you'll get mad with the camera. But if you give it enough light then it can take some really nice pictures.
