This is the first Medusa not based on an actual snake that I've done in a while! She was a lot harder to color than I was expecting, but I am still in love with her nonetheless and look forward to working with her in some more portraits.

Inspired by my love of Medusa and my adoration of Sri Shiva, Shanti is based on the idea that the Gorgon's stone gaze could be a metaphor for something beautiful instead of terrible. As Sri Shiva's eye destroys illusion, perhaps the Gorgon's gaze destroys hostility and anxiety making one as peaceful and centered as stone. Hence her name, Shanti, which means Peace. She holds her hand in the Abhaya Mudra - a gesture that reassures the onlooker to not be afraid as she opens her third eye. I intend to do a full body piece, but I'm not sure if she has legs or is a Naga. We shall see. The representation isn't perfect, but I'm looking forward to getting more of a feel for her with more pieces. Hope you enjoy!

And as always, there's prints and items available if anybody is interested.
