i know i asked about this before, but this is a little differet. well i got a infrared thermometer for $20 at harbor freight tools. it has a 1:6 cone ratio, and thats what i was looking for. the accuracy is pretty much the same as other cheaper thermometers, and it's got a laser pointer on it. i really like it and it was cheap.

now my question. i tested it out my taking the temp right next to the probe on my acurite, and they were almost spot on. but then taking in above the newspaper that covers the probe to keep it in place, the temp differs about 2-4 degreese. this seems normal becuase the newspaper will absorb a little heat and won't be as hot as the paper right next to the flexwatt. what i am wondering is should i turn the thermostat up? it is set at 93 but under the snakes hide it is only 88-89. should i turn up the t stat a couple degreese and try to get the surface area temp about 92?

i just want to know what others that use these kind of thermometers get as there surface area temps. thanks
