Hi everyone, I'm in the planning/prep process of getting my first BP and there are a few things I'm getting hung up on... I'm sure there's a lot of overthinking happening on my end, but asking for clarification seems better than assuming!
1. Mite prevention:
Regardless of where I end up buying my snake from, it seems that the safest bet is to just go through the steps of mite treatment given the possibility that any snake *could* have mites/nymphs/eggs, correct? I had planned to use Provent A Mite on the enclosure before the snake arrives until I realized it's permethrin, and I have an indoor cat (toxic to cats). I could potentially take the enclosure to the garage to spray and let it dry, but is that safe enough or am I taking chances?
2. Paper towel substrate:
I like the idea of using paper towels during the quarantine/monitoring period but I don't think I fully understand how to maintain humidity this way - is the water bowl and adjusting ventilation enough? Also, this is probably a stupid question but how do you change the paper towels out frequently without disturbing the new snake too much? Seems like you would need to take the hides/bowl/etc out each time to replace the layers?
I'm sure I will have many more questions and need a bit of hand holding (haha) as I get closer to actually purchasing my snake, but let's start with these. Thanks for looking![]()
