Question Do males ever skip seasons...? And questions about the female?

I currently only have one female and one male now, so it's been hard to tell who exactly is the issue here...

My male has been proven multiple times and has bred through fall~winter of 2019 (so, over a year ago) but seems to have never locked with my current female throughout fall/winter 2020. They just never seemed interested in each other and will just lay around next to each other. (The female weighs about 2100g and is proven according to the previous owner)

The story of the female is that her previous owner had bred her in the 2019 season and had expected a clutch from her in the summer, but she didn't lay. So he sold her to me in August 2020, still partially expecting her to lay a clutch while with me lol. She didn't either, and also never bred with my proven male...

Based on the way they both behave, it seems like neither are interested in the other.

Do males ever skip seasons since he's bred for the past 2 or 3 seasons in a row?
Or is it possible for the female to retain sperm from the previous year and already ovulated, but I missed it as usual? She shed once in September (which I thought maybe was a pre-lay shed, but wasnt) and then once in around end of November or December... LOL

In other news, I've also been pairing my blacktail cribos, and they also haven't copulated. Maybe I just have anti-breeding luck LOL.
