Good morning. I had a quick question on my new thermostat. Young BCI. I have him in a sterlite tub. Using a zoo med uth. I purchased a new on off thermostat the other day and placed it between the uth and the bottom of tub. I am using newspaper substrate.
The problem and I question I have, is I have the thermostat set at 92 degrees. And using a temp gun it's pretty spot on, of course the stat constantly turns on and off to keep that temperature, but when I put a layer off newspaper on bottom of tub the temperature drops 3-4 degrees. So my warm side is only around 88 degrees give or take in his warm side hide. If I want to get the hide at 90 or 91 I would have to set the thermostat to like 97 or so and that's what temp would be under the newspaper. I think part of the issue is with the probe in middle of uth it doesnt stick completely to my hub bottom, there is a little space there. I do have foil tape around the edges of the uth to hold in place but even so, just having the probe there unstick the middle some.
Is 88 degrees ok? Or should I bump the thermostat to 97? Is that too hot if he goes under the newspaper? And why in heck is their 3-4 degree difference above the newspaper?
I also have an oil heater in my bedroom set at 78 degrees, so his cool side hide fluctuates between 78-80 degrees. Is this ok? He spends 90% of his time on the cool end of the tub. Thanks for helping.
