So yesterday we'd had our windows open all day and night, and it was relatively cold in the room where we keep our BP. The thermostat was reading at only 84 for his under tank heater, even though I have it set for 90. I turned up his heat lamp and took the temps inside, which were about 85-90 on the warm side, and 73 throughout(so a tad cold). I was still confused as to why the UTH was reading low, but I ignored it and assumed it was because of the windows.
However I realized this morning that I'd made a bad error. At some point, the temp gauge of the thermostat had been bumped and was sitting halfway off the UTH. I put it back into place and the temp of the UTH was at a startling 120However, I once again took the temps inside the tub and the hotside was still only at about 85-90. He's been sitting on the warm side this whole time, so my hope is that the UTH heat didn't fully reach the tub, or that the open window cooled the tub enough that it didn't climb in temps. He seems to be acting fine; not stressed. I have the temps all back to normal now but I'm really worried I caused damage to him. He doesn't have any burns or anything, but I just feel awful. I'm so glad I caught my mistake sooner rather than later.
