So I'm getting my ball python on Saturday, and I am still figuring out the cool temperature side thing. I have a heat pad and heat bulb on the warm side, with a thermostat keeping it at 94 degrees. However, my tank is 3 feet long, and the cool side stays at just about 70. from what I've read its supposed to be about 80. But I don't know if that makes sense for my tank or not, because I would assume I shouldn't heat the cool side, it defeats the purpose, and I can't add more heat to the warm side in order to make the cool side warmer, because then it would be too hot. So my question is: does the cool side temp matter as long as the warm side temp is correct? Its not like it won't have a temperature gradient, and theoretically it will just go as far away from the heat source as it wants to, to be the correct temperature.
