I adopted a new BP a week ago. He is a 6-month-old piebald. The second day I had him, I attempted feeding and he gladly took it, two days after, I attempted handling. He's as friendly as can be! If I put my hand in to change the water, he starts climbing up my arm and around to my shoulder/neck. I will take him out to explore my room for 30 minutes, then let him do his own thing in his enclosure. He has never stricken me either. The breeder I got him from said I should take him to the vet around a week when I first have him, just to make sure he is in good health. The closest thing I've seen to a problem is him breathing heavier, but I am pretty sure it's just him being somewhat panicked when he first comes out or when I lift up his hide. I'm not sure how much the vet would cost for a checkup, but seeing as I'm 16 without a job, I would have a small problem with that. I currently am saving up $300 for my school fees that need to be paid in 13 days. Does anybody have any insights on whether I should do it or not? He doesn't seem unhealthy but I don't want to risk losing him to something because I was too tight on money to bother checking.

Anybody curious about him, I named him Mal, after Captain Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly. He eats rat pups, and is rather shy unless he decided he wants to come out.
