I do massage therapy in my home. Both of my boys were sleeping all morning today. My appointment was to arrive at 12 noon. They both came out of their hideys at 11:45. My clients do enjoy seeing them, and once I got my client on the table I told him "Mikey is giving you a show on your right if you want to watch him." Mikey was busy climbing, swimming, and crawling through and over his toilet paper roll. My client relaxed even more just watching Mikey's fluid gymnastics. He especially enjoyed watching Mikey climb to his "deck", which is a suction cup soap dish. As my client was dressed to leave, I came back out to the living room and found Harvey greeting him, even though Harvey is in full shed right now! Then my client left, and they both went back into their hideys.
So, yes, I'm sure they smell my client, but they were out right before he got there. I also put on special music for sessions, but not until my client is there. I like to think that they are sort of like my co-workers!
This is not the first time they've done this, either. Maybe they notice that I set up my table? I don't know, I just love them!
