    Almost Yearlings

Out of the 12 eggs my jungles gave me last year I still have 11 youngsters - one animal failed to thrive despite my best efforts and expired a couple months ago. I always planned on holding the clutch for a full year so I could observe their color changes and make more informed decisions on holdbacks. While a couple have thrown monkey wrenches in my plans, I'm mostly still eyeballing the same animals as potential keepers that I was 11 months ago. Here are a few of my favorites, for various reasons.

The one with the most yellow saturation is the female of this trio. The other two are males that I'll probably keep an extra while to see how they further develop. One I dig because he's got lots of black tipping in his yellow and a fair amount of yellow tipping in his black - just anxious to see how he turns out. The other male, pictured here with him, is just so clean and has some larger yellow bands - if he doesn't turn out to be a screamer, I'm back to square 1 in choosing holdbacks for future clutches.
