(I'm putting this under BP husbandry even though the viv in question houses a king)
Digital thermometer ($10, no stamped brand name) from Amazon in the last couple of months. Kept reading mid 60'sF on the cool end. Whenever I put my hand in, the viv felt warm. (RHP running)
Placed an (gasp) analogue thermometer ($25 Cheesemaking.com - for yogart) in there, and it reads almost 80F. These two are within an inch from eachother. I trust this dial thermometer - it has never messed up the cheese or yogart, and matches a couple of glass cooking ones (mercury?) I have that I won't put in the viv for fear of broken glass.
I no longer trust digital! None of them!
Now, looking for suitable analogues (quality - not Zoo Med) that can be mounted on the cool ends. (digitals with probes for the warm end prob. can only be checked for accuracy, not replaced with dials; as far as I know, the dials never come with probes.)
Grrr....
