If you went with the second image it would recommend reversing the lamp and redirecting the tail into it. This will give the image symmetry and make it more easily applied to things (think tshirts, cards, Web page etc.) I mocked something up on my phone to explain what I mean.
You might wanna also consider making it a simple black and white image like the style of the first one. It makes the logo more universally applicable and advertisable because the color of the entire logo can be changed to fit with whatever you want to put it to. Just my ideas and how I would do it
