So, a friend of mine stopped by my store to visit and happened to miss me, so she took a peek at the snakes. She messaged me soon after saying that something was wrong and that one boa's mouth was swollen, discolored, and unable to shut. I called in to check up and they said all was well. The next day was feeding and everybody seemed great! No signs of illness anywhere! In fact, my managers were quite ticked at me for calling and at my friend for second guessing their judgement(supposedly just a bit of substrate in her mouth). Anyway, feeding then commenced and two smaller boas didn't eat. No biggie, they are kept in the back for monitoring to see if they are in shed. The issue?
I went to the back to check on them. One has been CONSTANTLY soaking but her eyes are the usual bright color they always are.. then there's my other one...
How did I not notice sooner? She was hiding from me, so I removed her lights and took her out. I about dropped what I was holding. Her mouth seems to be offset and it's very noticable...much more so than before. She let me handle her, then set her head down on my hand and attempted to slither but stopped because the friction was moving her mouth. Her mouth opened slightly and I noticed the bottom of her jaw is at an angle and she had the most pitiful look. I immediately alerted my MOD and showed her to get a point across. Something was indeed wrong. She is back in quarantine for now until she sees a vet very soon. I did not see discoloration or anything else, but I would like to know what this is and how to help her. This is most likely the reason she didn't feed. I feel for her. I feel like I should've noticed sooner and now I wonder if maybe I did something wrong. Can anyone help me here? Hoping she sees the vet today if the report was filed yesterday.
