Ok so I just spent (well like 2.5 months ago) like 1600 with a small/family business type guy that builds reptile enclosures. I just received the actual enclosure and the racks are still being built/on the way. The enclosure is a relatively standard size for a large female BP that will remain a pet and most likely never be bred. The enclosure sustained some shipping related damage...BUT here is my problem...the quality of craftsman ship is awful...screws are overtightened to the point of the XPVC showing obvious compression damage, a 4 inch strip around one of the corners is cracked all the way through from the screws being so tight, pieces of XPVC are not measured to a level of precision to ensure all the joints and edges match up evenly...in general the quality is something very far inferior to what I was expecting. I immediately contacted the builder and notified him of the shipping related issues and emailed pictures...and then followed up with a paragraph going more into detail of what I was unhappy about.
I feel bad...the guy is a really nice guy and always takes time to chat and answer questions...and for the racks at least has given me a great deal on what I am getting for my money....the single unit enclosure though- if indicative of quality of craftsmanship makes me want to cancel everything and send it all back and ask for a full refund.
What you all of you do? i don't want to hurt someones feelings but I've been left feeling that if I am paying 1600$ of my money for something its reasonable to have standards and expectations of quality? Am I in the wrong wanting to send this enclosure back for a refund?
