    IRIS under bed storage

My adult BP is about 18 years old or so, and he is over 4'. He's been living in an aquarium that is 48" long x 13" deep x 21" tall with a pegboard lid. (576 sq inch footprint) It weighs a ton, and it's so tall that it's difficult for me to reach into it to clean it. (I'm a short armed, short woman.)

I would like to put him into an IRIS underbed storage container that has a hinged lid. http://smile.amazon.com/IRIS-Underbe...age+containers It's 39" long x 20" deep x 6.5" tall. (About 700+ square inch footprint.) Questions:

    1. Is 6" tall enough? If not, I can eliminate the top and use another of the containers as a top, making it 12" tall.

    2. I'll need to lock the lid or top container onto the bottom. In the past I had done this simply by drilling holes through both layers and sliding a bobby pin on. Worked great. Easy on, easy off. Any better suggestions?

    3. Any problems with off-gassing? Should these be aired outside in the sun for a couple of days, or will a thorough wash be enough?

    4. Vent holes in the front and rear ok, or should I put some around the sides, too?

    I appreciate your suggestions.
