I'm having a mite infestation at least with one snake. Disinfecting and cleaning everything. I was looking for something to deal with the problem, and there were more or less two options. Use NIX or PAM. Those are most widely used for treating mites and other parasites/bacteria. PAM is not available here in Slovenia, and probably it's hard to obtain even through Europe. NIX is more widely available but is going out of distribution here, so that will not be an option for future outbreaks.

Today I've found an also widely distributed alternative to both. Since NIX and PAM both use permethrin for active ingredient to eradicate everything i was also looking at alternatives using that compound.

Also people breading and keeping snakes in Slovenia, and also vets suggest using BIO KILL. It's 0.25% permethrin solution mixed with 99.75% water. It is available everywhere and it can be obtained in big 5L canisters as in 0.5L spray bottle.

I've found out that it is an generic from Jesmond LTD, Swiss and can also be found by other names, usually quite the same logo and everything. In Germany it's available under name CLEAN KILL. And the stuff is somewhat inexpensive. I've payed 20 euro for 5L canister 0.5 spray bottle costs 3.5 euro.


Just for everyone to know if they will have the problems with germs, bacteria, parasites. Not sure if it's available in the states, but I would imagine so, since it is widely distributed through whole Europe.
