V salvadorii breeding updates from Vital Exotics!

Its been 12 yrs since I first started reading everything I could get my hands on about V. salvadorii….It took me a while to get into the position to own some of these great animals and the space to set them up. 4 yrs ago I picked up my first female. Now I have 1.2.1 and things are starting to fall into place with them.

I have 2 females that have been introduced to my big male. The first has cycled for me before, with no breeding or eggs laid, but this cycle seems to be different. She has been with the male for the entire month of November and December up until I introduced him to my other cycling female on Jan 1 2014. I observed interest from the male at times, but no copulations were observed. Although she is showing some very positive signs…time will tell if this cycle is different or not. I have 12’ x 6’ x 6’ of floor space heated, with different temp ranges available, and a good sized elevated nest box filled with substrate, so hopefully she is able to find a suitable nest site in the enclosure. This will be her first clutch. Based on my experience and her “signs” she should be around 1-2 weeks out from laying.

Here are some photos of her and the male:

Courtship time for the male and my other female. Introduced January 1 2014. Courtship started right away and I have witnessed breeding action each day since then. This female has nested a clutch of infertiles for me last cycle, buried well. So hopefully she is happy with her nesting options as well.

I will keep everyone posted on the results. Thanks for the support!
