question: price to get a male or female BP sterilized? (for female desert or hybrids)
hi there
basically i have two reasons to ask for the price, and also the risks, of having a male or female BP professionally sterilized.
i plan on getting into BPs soon, when i have enough money saved up, and breeding will be a part of it.
i see two reasons to have a BP sterilized, one near-term, one very long term.
first reason is: i want to work with desert, but what i fear is that i sell my desert females, and someone else risks their health and well-being by attempting to breed them. with sterilisation, no fears, a healthy and long life is ensured even if some fool gets it and attempts breeding.
the second reason would be a potential hybrid project. i would start with a male XYZ python and a female ball python to ensure all babies get the mitochondrial DNA of a ball python. (unlike the chromosomal / regular DNA, mitochondrial DNA does not get randomized, it always goes directly from mother to offspring). and if i do, i would want to put a lid on the whole project and not sell breedable snakes before i get snakes with 100% ball python mitochondrial DNA and at least 87.5% ball python chromosomal DNA. so the 1st generation at 50% and the second generation at 75% would all need to be sterilized eventually to be sold as fancy pets or stay with me forever.
the long term goal would be to isolate a bunch of new morphs that are basically hybrid, but with 95%+ chromosomal ball python DNA and 100% mitochondrial ball python DNA, meaning practically identical to BPs. people have successfully done it with leopard and cat, these have 90%+ house cat DNA, have the size and temperament of a house cat, but totally look like miniature leopards.
