    I was not able to start getting pets of my own unless I saved up and bought them myself. Find a way to earn money (if you're too young for a job, try negotiating extra chores for extra $$) and save it up until you can afford the snake, cage, and food.     this x 2. except instead of a snake, cage, and food, save up for a snake, food, and a thermostat. thermostat first IMO. you can always get the cage later and keep it in a $5 tub from walmart. but a decent thermostat would be my first purchase, even before the snake.
