Hi everyone,
First off id like to apologize in advance since I'm sure plenty of people have put similar posts on these forums asking the same questions and expressing the same concerns. The reason for me posting this is just to get some insight from people have done and are currently breeding BPs.
I have been thinking about breeding ball pythons for about 2 years now and have never pulled the trigger. I have had regular ones all of my life but have not had any reptiles now for quite sometime. However twice a year the reptile shows come around and I head over there and see all the morphs and say next time I am going to walk away with a couple of ball pythons. Well this time I think I might actually pull the trigger on it. The next show isn't til early September and I figure if I am going to do this I can start preparing now and I will have a good 2-3 months to completely prepare myself.
I do not plan on breeding for another 2 years...from what I've read it takes females normally 18 months to be ready to breed while it takes males only about 12 months? This way I can go to the reptile show in September and just get a couple of 2013s and raise them myself instead of buying already breeding snakes.
I understand the costs of not only the snakes but also the equipment that comes along with them to make sure they raised properly. So the price of the snakes I'm not worried about too much because I would like to breed nicer snakes. The morphs that I am most interested in are the pieds and the bumblebee. Kind of opposite sides of the spectrum I know but it is what I like. What I am curious about and would like some help with is finding out what morphs I want to breed by trying to look toward the future babies. I plan in getting 4 females and 2 males to start out with and see where I can go from there. So if you have any recommendations for interesting looking morphs that are like the bumblebee or pied or that carry those genes please let me know!
Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance!
