Today, I went to the local feed store and bought 200 lbs of Mazuri Rodent block. The feed store loaded it into the back of my car, so I never touched or looked much at the bags. I then took my family out to lunch and came home. When I went to pull the rodent block out of the back of the car (4 bags at 50 lbs each), I noticed that the bags were very light. I could pick up two bags at a time. Thinking that either I must have had spinach for lunch and developed great strength, or the bags were depleted - I read the label. Instead of rodent block, they gave me the same sized bags (but much lighter) of Monkey Chow. It was after 12:30 when I noticed (the drive to the store is about 30 minutes) and they close at 1:00 pm today. So, I called them and told them that my wife would be there on Monday to swap the monkey chow for rodent block. They said OK, but called me back twice (I missed one call) within a few minutes and asked if I could bring it back now. They said that they would wait for me, even though they were closed.
When I got there, they were apologetic and loaded the rodent block in my car. Then to my surprise, one of the guys said that the credit/debit machine was closed for the day and he was sorry for the inconvenience. Then he handed me a $20 and said this is for your trouble. I was a little stunned because I paid the right price, but thanked him and stuffed the $20 in my pocket, thinking it really was a little inconvenient as I really didn't need to spend another hour driving round trip when I am trying to prepare to vend a show tomorrow.
So, now I'm wondering. Is monkey chow much more expensive than rodent block, or is this just great customer service? Either way, I win. So, I'm not upset but it does have me wondering. I would never have sold the monkey chow to anyone else, because that would be stealing.
So, what was it? Great service or they were worried that I'd discover that I had something much more valuable than rodent block? My curious mind now wants to know.
