Though I'm not female, I, and now I make my wife, carry the maximum legal length knife possible. We both carry 4" SOG Trident, I really wanted a Camillus Beast, but it's 4.1" and that's technically not legal. I had my great uncle teach me and then my wife how to knife fight too. So, I have a big knife and know how to use it.

I carry an 11" Beltrame switch.

If my life is in peril, I'll worry about it being "illegal" later.
