Cat, you do whatever you need to to be comfortable. It's NEVER the girls fault. I have taught this to my offspring and I learned it myself back in the long ago.

I warn my female offspring fairly often to be careful and watch everyone and to listen to that little voice.

I'm a big somewhat scary man and I've seen the look of fear in a woman's eye when I'm in a parking lot or happen to be going the same way on the path at the beach, even at the gym. I don't ever say anything, but I'm glad it's there because they're WATCHING. I'm never insulted because there are some real asswipes out there that get off on hurting girls. It makes all of us guys look bad, but it is FAR better to be safe than sorry.
