This is the first time out of my three total deployments where part of me is sad to be leaving. The Afghan soldiers that I have worked with are the most professional soldiers that I have ever seen in this country and they all truly care about making their coutnry a better and more secure place. They are among the true heroes of this conflict, and when we roll out together they don't have the body armor, the night vision, the high speed weapons or the up armored vehicles that we do. I will be forever thankful for the opportunity to come over here and meet these men and will remember many of them for the rest of my life! Sorry if it seemed like I was whining or making things out to be harder than they are over here. But hey, at least your wife was with you at work, so that had to be nice, right? Happy Turkey Day, man.
Every once in awhile I hear or read something that does a little bit to restore my faith in humanity. I desperately want to believe that people are basically good! Today, this was my something-to-smile-about. I love to see people point their finger at someone else to shift positive focus rather than negative.
