I saw this science facility a week ago where they were housing a ball python with a boa constrictor in the same cage, and it wasn't that big, like maybe big enough for younger one boa only. The ball python was having horrible shedding issues from what I could tell. Also, the water looked like it was growing algae...
I had to keep my big mouth shut about all the care maintenance issues, because I didn't want to offend the authority of the place, and I'll have my chance to correct them sometime in the future. However, it was really hard to do.
Other big problems I noticed:
They had a lot of other reptiles. The leopard geckos were shoved in ten gallon tanks (big colonies) with constant lighting right over their heads, no temperature difference throughout the cage really. Another four ball pythons were being shoved into ten gallons with a bad set up. They did have some happy beardies though. Also, I noticed some giant ass king snakes in these giant arboreal cage, but the actual space of the ground was like really tiny (1 square fot or something like that). They were using a heat rock with the king snakes, so that took up a lot of the space too.
They had a Chinese Water Dragon that was being put into a dry dessert environment (I nearly had a fit seeing that). There were some frogs who also had sort of bad conditions...
Besides that, it was just overall bad maintenance.
To get back to the point of my question, I don't know how to explain why they shouldn't keep a boa constrictor with a ball python; It is just such common sense to me that I've forgotten how to explain it; I know that I can say that its dangerous for the snake, they are from different countries, their care needs are different, etc, but I think they would just say, "Well, they've been fine for ____ years." and then just blow off my advice.
Any more strong arguments to help improve these reptiles' lives?
